Testla in Alameda

I was just minding my own business, or actually just looking for a spot near my house to do some video testing. Stopping at a park on the old Naval Air Station (NAS) I noticed a car out on the old runway.

Normally, there should be no cars out there. This time however I spotted a Tesla stopped conspicuously on the tarmac.

Turns out they were testing something. What exactly I’m not sure. There were two extra sets of tires at the ready. Closer inspection of my photos (taken at quite a long distance with a super-telephoto lens) show a red wire coming from the engine compartment to the passenger side (held on by a bit of black tape- somewhat third world style for such a fancy bit of tech!

Tearsheet: CityWire

I’ve been busy doing reverse image searches and here are a few resulting tearsheets. This one is from CityWire by Peter Smith.

Animated GIFs of Autonomous Cars

Google did it again!

I went to my photos.google.com page and the assistant made some super-cute animated GIFs from the photos I took of a couple of different self-driving cars.

Rock Me Beethoven

(with my apologies to the late Falco and the even later Amadeus….)

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, San Jose, California, USA

San Jose has a wonderful newish Library. I’ve visited the MLK Library a few times already. But until now managed to avoid visiting the Beethoven Center.

The MLK Library is somewhat unique as I understand it as it is both the City of San Jose’s Public library and is shared as part of San Jose State University. In addition to having some of the best publicly accessible views of the city, it is home to a number of special collections. In addition to the aforementioned Beethoven Center, there’s also a Steinbeck center, California Room various special ethnic collections on the fifth floor.

As I arrived the Beethoven Center just a few minutes before closing. The gentleman there told me that he plays some of the historical pianos – but he was wrapping up to close so I’d have to come back another day.

And so I will!

NEWSFLASH: Uber Self Driving Cars in SF

It’s not like I’m tired of stalking Google’s self driving car program. But I figured I should branch out a little:-)

In any case, I don’t have enough time to do my typical posts full of the usual drivel and blah blah blahs, so I’ll just place a few photos here with a link.

Aerial Photo of San Jose likely taken in the late 1980’s/Stock photograph by Hans Halberstadt.

We here at SiliconValleyStock.com are constantly looking for ways to help you….the photo researcher, picture buyer, magazine, text book publisher or anybody else looking for photography of what the kids now refer to as Silicon Valley.

It so happens that not only am I a photographer, but so is my dad, Hans. Even my grandfather (Milton “Hal” Halberstadt) was a photographer. Must be in the genes I guess…… Hopefully my daughter Ella will escape the the creative occupation that has cursed our family for three generations and become a doctor or accountant!

In any case my dad has been digging through dusty old shoe-boxes full of slides. Somewhere between the photos of tanks and scantily clad maidens (eeew, TMI!) he’s found a vein of old photos of Silicon Valley and tech stuff. My guess is that the photos he’s digitized and given me are from the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s. In short these photos were most likely made while listening to Def Leopard on a cassette deck.

When I was a wee lad, my dad actually rented a small office at the (then domestic) San Jose Airport. The office was in the same building with Aris Helicopters, and he used to go up and shoot aerials on occasion. So there are quite a few aerials in the mix.

Hey, where’s city hall?! San Jose from former San Jose Hospital Building ca. 1990

My dad also managed to gain access to some excellent vantage points. In fact the view above is from the form San Jose Medical Building on Santa Clara street (actually 25 North 14th Street). The building is now dubbed “San Jose Business Center” but seems to only have a pot dealer “medical” marijuana dispensary on the ground floor. I’ve been nagging the property management company (Chavez Management) trying to get access. Wouldn’t it be cool to have before and after photos?

From what I understand there are thousands and thousands of dusty slides just waiting to see the light of (the internet). Guess I better start digging around in and scanning!

Video of the New Google Self Driving Car

I’m still working on my video skills, sorry they’re crap right now. But here’s a short snippet I caught of the new Google two seater self driving car in a Silicon Valley parking lot. Fortunately I did get some decent stills (see here.)

Stock Video Testing

Testing…..one, two, three, testing…….

I’ve been trying to grab a little stock video while I’m out doing the regular SiliconValleyStock schtick. Here are a few recent samples captured at the Googleplex in Mountain View AKA Silicon Valley. I just figured out how to display here on my site without going to Youtube or any of that sort of thing, so I might drop a bunch more on this site soon.
